With over a decade of experience in backend development, and some frontend expertise too, Martin has been part of the WeldEye team since 2023.
For Martin, no two days are ever the same. Mondays often start with a full slate of project status meetings, admin check-ins, and team discussions about development methods. But away from the meeting room, his focus is firmly on solving problems and creating new features for WeldEye. Debugging plays a central role in his day — carefully tracing the cause of bugs and finding solutions. Like many developers, Martin spends long hours in front of a screen. But he has learned the value of taking breaks. A walk down to the beach, especially in the scarce daylight of a Norwegian winter, can often provide the clarity needed to solve a tough coding problem. Coffee, chocolate, and conversations with colleagues also play their part in sparking breakthroughs.
“It’s rewarding when customers see what’s possible with the software. Knowing I’ve built something people depend on is a big motivator.”
Of course, the role isn’t without its challenges. Staying up to date with evolving frameworks requires both time and practice, and first-line support can be tricky when customers describe problems in welding-specific terms that need careful translation into developer language to ensure you arrive at the right solution.
Martin likens it to “speaking different dialects” — with clear communication the key to success. Once a new feature reaches development, Martin is closely involved in planning its implementation, building the backend code, before passing it on for further testing and quality assurance. His colleagues have simultaneously worked on the UX and UI side. He also helps customers directly, installing updates and managing larger upgrades. For many clients, Martin becomes the go-to contact when future updates are needed.
Away from work, Martin is an avid board gamer. He and his friends have been playing Gloomhaven for three years and are finally nearing the finish line! He also loves to travel, favouring Europe for its shorter flights and hidden gems. A highlight was going on foot through the entire length of the Netherlands — a 10-day adventure filled with interesting small towns, dodging cyclists and earning himself a pair of very worn out shoes.
Looking ahead, Martin is eager to see all WeldEye users transition to the latest WE8 version, which will simplify support and bring fresh UX improvements.
Until then, he remains focused on what he does best — solving problems, building features, and helping customers get the most from WeldEye.
